After leaving the Service, Mr. Bergman earned his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and went on to work as an investment banker for Morgan Stanley where he advised on M&A and leveraged buyout transactions. Mr. Bergman was then recruited to join a private equity backed environmental consulting firm, Alta Environmental,  as the Vice President of Sales and Business Development where, through rapid organic growth and tuck-in acquisitions, the company almost tripled in size in less than two years.

In early 2013, Mr. Bergman purchased a controlling interest in Cadence , a distribution company targeting the power utility market in California.  The company was profitable but had suffered five straight years of revenue and margin decline.  With a drastic shift in strategy and tactical execution, the company saw an immediate, dramatic increase in sales and margin, growing by almost 450% in 2014 and another 40% in 2015, all the while almost doubling gross margin. Subsequently, in 2014 & 2015, the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) Orange County Chapter nominated Cadence for its Growth Category award, putting the company in the ranks with the fastest growing companies in Southern California.
